Tesla positions Optimus as a general-purpose humanoid for factory work first and home use later.

Tesla frames Optimus as “physical AI”: factory tasks first, household use later. IR (Jan 2026) describes Gen 3 as the first mass-production design, SOP planned before end-2026, eventual planned capacity of 1 million robots per year—not the same as commercial deliveries.
Musk has claimed Optimus could be ~80% of Tesla’s value and a ~$20k–$30k at-scale price. External sales are often cited around late 2027 in coverage. Treat those as aspirations.
Gen 1 demos → Gen 2/2.5 locomotion and hands → Gen 3 mass-prod intent. Factory first, then industrial customers, then home.
Morgan Stanley–style long-horizon humanoid TAM scenarios (e.g. multi-trillion by 2050) are bank research, not Tesla forecasts.
Until confirmed customer shipments exist, million-unit capacity and sub-$30k pricing remain aspirational claims.
